NQF Ref Version 0712 Page 1 of 7 3 National Certificate in Materials Management (Level 3) Level 3 Credits 60 Purpose The National Certificate in Materials Management (Level 3) [Ref: 0712] is the basic qualification for people working in materials management at manufacturing or other industrial sites. The qualification covers the following compulsory skills and knowledge: basic knowledge of storage and materials handling at manufacturing and other industrial sites; receiving and processing inwards goods and materials; storing, issuing, dispatching, and returning goods and materials; monitoring inventory; and application of safety practices in materials management. In addition there is a choice of elective standards to allow for a variety of work situations: communication and listening skills; managing first aid in emergency situations including resuscitation; forklift truck license; distribution of goods or materials; and developing and maintaining quality assurance procedures for materials management. Most of the compulsory standards are designed for learning and assessment on-job, with a small amount of classroom or distance learning. The elective list includes standards suitable for a variety of learning and assessment methods. Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard. This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards. For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards – see table below.
