Element 1
Demonstrate knowledge of pest plant impacts.
Performance criteria
1.1
Total control, boundary control, and regional surveillance pest plants in New
Zealand are identified.
1.2
Pest plants are compared and contrasted with weeds.
1.3
Impact of pest plants on environments is described in terms of displacement of
indigenous or desirable species.
Range
1.4

Economic impact of pest plants in a New Zealand region is described in terms
of short and long term effects.
Element 2
Demonstrate knowledge of growth stages and adaptations of pest plants.
Performance criteria
2.1
Pest plant growth stages are defined.

Pest plants are described physically at each stage of growth.
2.3
Plant adaptations to changing environmental factors are identified.
Range
adaptations may include but are not limited to – plant form, plant
reproduction, physical and chemical defences, plant vigour, root
systems.
Element 3
Demonstrate knowledge of pest plant growth and spread in terms of environment and
seasonal conditions.
Performance criteria
3.1
Environments that best support the growth of pest plants are specified.
3.2
Spread of pest plants is defined in terms of the impact of seasonal conditions
and environment changes.

Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
