Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to interpret audio
transcription conventions, and transcribe documents from a
recorded source, at 80 wpm.

Transcription is based on a 97% level of accuracy that allows three errors per 100
words dictated. Only one error is attributable to one word and five keystrokes represent
an average word. Keystrokes include punctuation and spacing. An English language
dictionary may be used during transcription.

Spelling, grammar, vocabulary, and punctuation in the documents must be consistent
with the nature and purpose of the business or organisational information required.
Candidates must be given the opportunity to proofread their work prior to submission.

Evidence requirements
1.1
Audio transcription conventions are interpreted in accordance with information
provided and output required.
1.2
Use of conventions is explained in terms of organisational requirements.
Outcome 2
Transcribe documents from a recorded source dictated at 80 wpm.

correspondence, tables, notices, forms.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Transcriptions of recorded information are consistent with the information provided
and achieve at least 97% accuracy.
Range
2.2
transcriptions may be undertaken at different times, transcription
time for both communications is a total of 40 minutes;
evidence of two different types of documents each containing a total
of 480-500 words.
Interpretation of instructions, composition, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and
format of transcriptions are consistent with the information provided and output
required.

before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses
of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by
NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and
which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that
applies to those standards.
