Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate
knowledge of tracked tractors and attachments for agricultural
contracting; identify hazards and describe safety procedures for
operating a tracked tractor for agricultural contracting; prepare
the tracked tractor for use in agricultural contracting; carry out
field preparation; operate the tracked tractor for land
development; carry out post-operational procedures; and move
the tracked tractor from site to site.

Definitions
Company requirements refer to all policies, procedures, and methodologies the candidate’s
organisation has in place including but not limited to those relating to health, safety,
environment, quality, and operations.
Couplings includes couplings and safety chains that comply with Land Transport Rule –
Heavy Vehicles 2004;
Manufacturer’s instructions may include specifications, installation, handling, use, and
maintenance instructions and safety data sheets.
Sloping terrain means terrain that exceeds 20º.

Outcome 2
Identify hazards and describe safety procedures for operating a tracked tractor for
agricultural contracting.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Hazards associated with operating a tracked tractor for agricultural contracting
are identified.

includes but is not limited to – operator, people including
passengers, obstacles, speed, tractor instability, steering hazards,
braking, sloping terrain.
2.2
Safety procedures are described in terms of avoiding harm to people or damage
to the tractor or other property.
2.3
Procedures for periodic maintenance are described in accordance with
manufacturer’s instructions and company requirements.

includes but is not limited to – track wear, fuel lines, coolants,
hydraulic system, cables or attachments, controls.
Outcome 3
Prepare the tracked tractor for use in agricultural contracting.
Evidence requirements
3.1
Tracked tractor is checked for condition, damage, wear, and faults; problems
are identified; and corrective action is taken in accordance with manufacturer’s
instructions and company requirements.

5.1
Tracked tractor is mounted and dismounted safely, using three-point stability.
5.2
Tracked tractor is manoeuvred on site with adequate clearances in accordance
with manufacturer’s instructions, Operator Safety Manual, client requirements,
and company requirements.

5.3
Tracked tractor is controlled on sloping terrain in accordance with

Tracked tractor is manoeuvred on site with smoothness of movement and
machine stability.

6.1
Shut-down procedures are carried out in accordance with manufacturer’s
instructions.
6.2
Any damage or faults including any missing, bent, broken, or loose parts are
identified and are repaired, replaced, or reported in accordance with
manufacturer's instructions and/or company requirements.
6.3
Tractor is stored in accordance with company requirements.
6.4
Documentation for the operation is completed in accordance with company and
client requirements, and is stored in accordance with company requirements.
Outcome 7
Move the tracked tractor from site to site.
Evidence requirements
7.1
Tracked tractor is cleaned so that track and frame are clear of contamination
prior to moving from site.
7.2
Tracked tractor is driven off-road in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions
and Operator Safety Manual.
7.3
Tracked tractor is loaded on and unloaded from transporter in accordance with
manufacturer’s instructions and transporter driver’s instructions.
