Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge of anaerobic silage processes. Evidence requirements 1.1 The desirable dry matter content (DM%) to make desirable silage is identified. 1.2 Establishment of good silage fermentation is explained in terms of basic process and critical factors. 1.3 Factors that can create a poor silage result are explained in terms of their adverse effect. Range low DM%, high DM%, contaminants, inadequate compaction, air exposure. 1.4 The critical factors for long-term storage security are identified. 1.5 Ensiled material testing is explained in terms of timing, qualities to be tested, and predictability for total food value.
