Purpose
The National Diploma in Extractive Industries (Site Management) (Level 5) with strands in
Surface Extraction, and Underground Extraction [Ref: 1524] is designed for managers who
are situated on site at a surface or underground extraction site or for graduates with a

tendering, negotiating, and managing a contract.
The strands enable the holder to demonstrate specific skills and knowledge required to
manage a surface or underground extraction site.
This qualification is part of a pathway that begins with the National Certificate in Extractive
Industries (Introductory Skills) with strands in Surface Extraction, and Underground
Extraction [Ref: 0247], the National Certificate in Extractive Industries (Operations) with
strands in Coal Plant, Drilling Surface, Drilling Underground, Maintenance Operations,
Metalliferous Processing, Mobile Plant Surface, Processing Plant, Surface Extraction,
Underground Extraction, and Water Treatment [Ref: 1521], the National Certificate in
Extractive Industries (Supervision) (Level 4) with strands in Surface Extraction, and
Underground Extraction [Ref: 0249], the National Certificate in Extractive Industries
(Supervision) (Level 5) with strands in Surface Extraction, and Underground Extraction
[Ref: 1523] and culminates in the National Diploma in Extractive Industries (Management)
with strands in Surface Extraction, and Underground Extraction [Ref: 0806]. This
qualification can be completed at any stage within this pathway to meet individual and
company needs (noting that the National Certificate in Extractive Industries (Introductory
Skills) (Level 2) with strands in Surface Extraction, and Underground Extraction
[Ref: 0247] is a prerequisite for award of this qualification).

Requirements for Award of Qualification
Award of NQF Qualifications
Credit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification.
Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the
purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided in section 7 of the New Zealand
Qualifications Authority (NZQA) Rules and Procedures publications available at
http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/ncea/acrp/index.html.
Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions
and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet
qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard.
