Mary Hurley and Megan Gervasi Level: Graduate Credits: 6 Prerequisites: Anatomy & Physiology 1 & 2 - or - Comparative Anatomy Course Description: This is a lecture and laboratory course in human gross anatomy, which uses cadaver dissection and other materials illustrative oh human anatomy. Emphasis is placed on the anatomy of skeletal muscles, including their bony attachments, nerve and blood supply, and functions in movements. Additional dissections involve a survey of abdominal, pelvic, and thoracic organs, anatomy of the head, and contents of the cranial cavity. Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the student will know all areas of the human body in detail, and be confident with that knowledge in a clinical setting. Rationale: Many professional degree programs in the health sciences require a cadaver dissection course in human gross anatomy as a part of the curriculum. Full Course Format: A. Format: Lecture will be presented to the students, followed by cadaver dissection of that region. Students will also be briefed on the embryology, clinical implications and possible pathology they may encounter. They will then dissect the region on the cadaver. B. Course requirements: Regular participation, performance of assigned dissections, and attendance of lecture and practical exams C. Assessment of students: Lecture and Practical exams follow each block of material that cover a region of the body.Penalties will be given for non-participation in dissection. Topic Outline: 1. Anatomy of the back and shoulder 2. Anatomy of the upper extremity 3. Anatomy of the thorax, abdomen and pelvis 4. Anatomy of the lower extremity 5.
