About PT3 Digital Video Workshops
How do I get started with video?
 Arrange a planning meeting.
 Fill out a request for grant services with a PT3 grant staff
member
 Decide if you want one-on-one training for yourself and/or
additional training to be incorporated into your class curriculum.
 Provide a copy of your class syllabus before planning meeting.
 Define your video needs in relation to your course goals.
How can I integrate Digital Video into my course curriculum?
 Define your video needs in relation to your course goals.
 Work out a reasonable objective and timeline with PT3 Grant
staff.
Are students and I required to participate with the Camera Safety
and Comfort Orientation as part of Digital Video Training?
 Yes. Knowledge of camera and equipment safety and comfort
with the components are essential to digital video use.
 The PT3 grant staff provides camera orientation and hands ontraining as part of their training model.
Do I need to come to workshops?
 Please. If you are the requesting faculty member, it is required
that you participate in the workshops modeling technology
integration and for retention purposes after the grant concludes.
Where do faculty and students borrow camera equipment?
 The Cahill Learning and Resource Lab





Minimum 48 Advanced reservations are required.
Cancel with Cahill immediately when you have to.
Arrange to pick up your camera equipment the day before your
needs and to return promptly should their hours not work with
yours. They have limited hours.
 Cahill checkout policies are adhered to and supported by the
PT3 grant. PT3 provides camera, tripods and accessory kits for
smaller workshops if you have less than 18 participants.
 PT3 does not loan out equipment after workshops.
Who can borrow Digital Video Equipment from Cahill?
 Faculty checks equipment in and out for their students.
 Students may use during the two-day checkout period but need
to return equipment to the Faculty member, not Cahill.
 Faculty is responsible for the equipment.
 Cameras must never be left in cars or in classrooms.
 It is important to adhere to Cahill's borrowing policies.
Who provides the tapes?
 Faculty and students need to provide their own tapes.
 Format depends on what cameras you are using. The Cahill lab
loans Digital Hi-8 Cameras (Digital 8 or Hi-8 Tape not provided)
When is the deadline for scheduling Workshops?
 Please contact the grant office by February 15th, 2002
What are some the limits in Digital Video at SFSU?
 Workshop time, space, camera check out and training and
computer memory.
Why Do Digital Video Projects need to be so short?
 Digital Video when imported onto your computer using Fire wire
uses enormous amounts of computer hard drive. The more well
planned and reasonable your project, the more feasible this
introduction to Digital Video will be for you and your students.
