Classification Performing Arts General > Performing Arts Technology Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Definitions Construction plan means a documented plan identifying the materials, tools and techniques required to construct the items. Production needs means the requirements of such aspects as: the script; the setting, style or period of the production; the design; the performers. The production needs to be met by the item(s) must be outlined in the given brief. 2 Candidates being assessed against this unit standard must demonstrate safe working practices at all times. These may include but are not limited to safe working practices in situations involving – working at heights, working with electricity, lifting, securing equipment safely, replacing and storing equipment, use of tools, use of supplied safety equipment. Evidence of this may be provided by a teacher/tutor attestation or candidate’s reflective statement. A useful reference for safe working practice is the Entertainment Technology New Zealand publication A Guide for Safe Working Practices in the New Zealand Theatre and Entertainment Industry, 2011, which can be accessed at http://www.etnz.org. 3 Legislation Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, and its subsequent amendments. 4 Range Item(s) may include but are not limited to – props, mask, puppet, set items, costume prop(s), cultural prop(s). Specified performance context may include but is not limited to a performance scenario or an excerpt from – theatre, dance, kapa haka, music performance, performance art, fashion show. The context the candidate is being assessed in must be specified by the teacher/tutor. Evidence requirements 1.1 Brief is analysed to determine the practical requirements for the item(s). Range how, where, and by whom the item(s) will be used in the performance. Outcome 2 Investigate construction methods relevant to the item(s) and its use in the performance. Evidence requirements 2.1 Construction methods are identified in terms of the practical requirements of the item(s) and the production needs of the specified performance context. may include – flexibility, weight, texture, transparency. Range 2.2 Construction plan is developed for item(s) that meets the requirements of the brief. Outcome 3 Construct item(s) to meet the production needs for a specified performance context. Evidence requirements 3.1 Constructed item(s) meets the requirements of the developed construction plan and the production needs for a specified performance context.
