QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE NATIONAL AWARD ARE: 1) Membership in DES; 2) An overall grade point average of 3.90-4.00 on all work taken as an undergraduate; 3) Further evidence of high scholarship a) a grade of "A" or the highest level of distinction on an approved undergraduate thesis or its equivalent in the major field. (The equivalency must be justified in writing by the department chair or mentor.) OR b) Scores at the 90th percentile or better on a nationally recognized test (e.g., GRE, LSAT, GMAT, MCAT); 4) Endorsements by the chapter advisor, the department chair or mentor, and the chief academic officer; 5) Nominations may be made after seven (7) semesters and must be made no later than six (6) months after the granting of the undergraduate degree. The award consists of a gold plated medallion and publication of the recipient's name in the Journal. INSTRUCTIONS 1. Give the full name of the student. 2. Self-explanatory. 3. While some institutions may make their final determinations of standing on the complete academic record, qualifications for the National Award may be made in either 7 or 8 semesters of college work. 5. a) Evidence of scholarly work consists of the title of nominee's thesis, identification of a performance or exhibition, the title of a scholarly work that has been accepted for publication, or the equivalent of these.
