a. Chairperson: McClure nominated Gary Buckley to continue as chair. The vote was
unanimous in favor.
b. Secretary: John Hodgson nominated himself as secretary. The vote was unanimous in favor.
3. Consideration of proposed actions
a. Course modifications
i.
Sociology: Nineteen courses were presented for modifications to course
descriptions and/or prerequisites: SOCI 2013, 2023, 2223, 2503, 3003, 3123, 3323,
3343, 3373, 3403, 3513, 3991-3, 4003, 4013, 4103, 4303, 4491-3, 4533, and 4591-3.
Discussion entailed questions about effects on other programs and complications
with registration. Bausch said that 20-25 students might need a registration override
each semester because of “junior standing” prerequisites. McClure moved that the
committee accept the changes. Hawkins seconded. The motion carried.
ii.
Computing and technology: Two courses were presented for modification. Tech
3033 was modified to emphasize project management, and MIS 3033 was modified
to better align with CIS and IT degree programs. Discussion focused on impact of
changes to other majors and to students currently enrolled in the programs. Estep
noted that the project management course would now be available for other
majors, and that substitutions would be offered for currently enrolled students.
Bausch moved that the committee accept the changes. Soylu seconded. The motion
carried.
iii.
Psychology: One course was presented for modification. The prerequisites of
departmental permission and senior standing for PSY 4331 were removed. McClure
moved to accept the changes. Masters seconded. The motion carried.
b. Course deletions
i.
English and Foreign Languages: One course was presented for deletion. ENGL 4313
will be built into a rotating course, ENGL 4023. Hawkins moved to accept the
change. Walton seconded. The motion carried.
ii.
Sociology: Four courses were presented for deletion. SOCI 2043 was outdated and
no longer offered, SOCI 3333 has been replaced by another course, and SOCI 3423
and 3523 are now covered elsewhere.
c. Program modification: Chemistry is currently a single program with different sequences but
no official options. Proposed changes would offer three options: ACS certified, non-ACS
certified, and Pre-Health. Discussion McClure moved to table consideration of the change
until course requirements are clarified. Hawkins seconded. The motion carried.
d. Program deletion: The Human Ecology program in the Department of Psychology was
presented for deletion due to low interest and retirement of primary faculty member.
Guthridge moved to accept the deletion. Bausch seconded. The motion carried.
4. Next meeting date and time: the next meeting will take place the week of November 29th.
Buckley advised that the HLC visitors might wish to meet with the committee on November 810.
