Classification Social Science Studies > Psychology Available grade Achieved, Merit, and Excellence Criteria for Merit The analysis includes a detailed analysis of the key features and a justification for the use of the experimental methodology in a published piece of experimental psychological research with supporting reasons identified and explained. Criteria for Excellence The analysis includes a comprehensive analysis of the key features and identifies weakness and/or suggests further improvement in the experimental methodology in a published piece of experimental psychological research with at least one weakness and/or suggestion for further improvement explained. Explanatory notes 1 Definitions Analysis and interpretation of data refers to – visual representation of data, explaining correlations, central tendency, standard deviation or drawing inferences. A published piece of experimental psychological research involves a study from a recognised academic journal or equivalent publication, or a summary of an academic study, and is one where the experimental design can be determined and analysed. Scientific method is the systematic approach to scientific thought that emphasises the centrality of observation and analysis in scientific enquiry. 2 This unit standard can be awarded with an Achieved, Merit, or Excellence grade. For the Achieved grade to be awarded, all outcomes must be achieved as specified in the outcome statement(s). For Merit or Excellence grades to be awarded, the candidate must meet the Merit or Excellence criteria specified above. 3 Outcome of the analysis may be conveyed using written, oral, or audio-visual presentation in response to a given assignment.
