People credited with this unit standard are able to complete simple forms (EL). Classification Languages > English Language Available grade Achieved Entry information Recommended skills and knowledge Unit 27998, Complete basic forms in familiar contexts (EL), or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills. Explanatory notes 1 English Language (EL) refers to the acquisition of English as an additional language. 2 This unit standard may contribute to the New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 2) [Ref: 1881]. It is at a level comparable to Common European Framework of Reference high A2 – low B1. 3 All assessment activities must be conducted in English, which must not be the candidate’s first language. 4 Assessment must be conducted in a supportive environment. Candidates may request assistance to understand the requirements of the assessment tasks. 5 The assessor must be satisfied that the candidate can independently demonstrate competence against the unit standard. 6 It is recommended that this assessment be conducted in conjunction with assessment against other English Language unit standards at this level. 7 Candidates may use a bilingual and/or an English dictionary, but not electronic devices. 8 Candidate’s writing competence must be assessed after they have been given the opportunity to edit and proofread their work. NZQA National Qualifications Services SSB Code 130301 New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 NZQA registered unit standard 28001 version 2 Page 2 of 3 9 Candidate’s writing may contain inaccuracies, but errors must not obscure meaning. 10 For this unit standard, forms must: i be approximately one-two pages each in length; ii be relevant to everyday life eg leave, job application, enrolment; iii include information given in sentences, abbreviations, and numbers; iv require a paragraph response in part of both forms. 11 Candidate may refer to other documents to obtain information needed to complete forms. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Complete simple forms (EL). Range at least two different forms relevant to the candidate. Evidence requirements 1.1 Correct information is provided to meet the requirements of the form. 1.2 Information is placed accurately. 1.3 Form is completed in accordance with conventions. Range 1.4 conventions may include but are not limited to – capital or block letters, signatures, abbreviations. Paragraph contains grammatical structures appropriate for purpose. Range paragraph may include but is not limited to – giving explanation, viewpoint, background information; grammatical structures may include but are not limited to – tense, singular and/or plural agreement, prepositional phrases of time and place.
