Instructions
In this activity you will profile two current Reo Māori Media stakeholder organisations and
two current reo Māori media production houses to present to your local hapu or iwi who
want to invest in and develop their own multi - media organisation. You will make
recommendations based on your research that would be suitable for your chosen hapu or
iwi.
As preparation, you will examine two case studies in class that will assist you to research
and develop your own multi-media presentation.
Preparation
Stakeholder Organisation
You will be provided with a presentation that profiles important aspects of Whakaruruhau o
nga Reo Irirangi Māori o Aotearoa such as vision, mission statement, background,
strategic plan, communications strategy, organizational structure, governance etc.
In groups, use this information as a basis to select at least 2 operational roles, 2 obligation
roles for the provision and promotion of reo Māori and information about their service
provision from the lists below:

Your research should include an interview with a key person identified from Whakaruruhau
o ngā Reo Irirangi Māori o Aotearoa (Federation of Māori Radio Stations), to clarify any
information that may be required. Develop key questions to ensure that you cover all of
the information required that you may not be able to source in written, visual or audio form
and ensure that you record all sources of information in a bibliography.
As a group, select key information to develop into a multi-media presentation.
As a group present your understanding of operations, obligations, service provision and
transmission platforms through whakaari, waiata, haka, oral, visual or written presentation.
Production House
You will be provided with a presentation that profiles important aspects of Te Upoko o te
Ika radio station including an interview conducted with the Radio Station Manager.
In groups, use this information as a basis to select at least 2 operational roles, 2
transmission platforms and one technical service provider from the lists below:

Explain the features of each platform to include transmission, access or reception,
production, delivery, typical use and applications, deliverers, cost effectiveness and any

Compare at least two platforms in terms of their features and future uses for reo Māori
media and make a recommendation based on what would be most appropriate for a
stakeholder organization AND a production house.

As a group, present your understanding of operations, obligations, service provision and
transmission platforms through whakaari, waiata, haka, oral, visual or written presentation.
Use the feedback you receive from your kaiako and your peers to assist with your own
multi – media presentation that you will develop individually for your assessment.
Activity 1 Stakeholders (Performance criteria 1.1)
Select two stakeholder organisations that your hapū, iwi or community may find
informative when developing their own multi media organisation.
One stakeholder must be from radio and the other can be selected from television, film,
print or internet. Check with your kaiako before you proceed to ensure that the
organisations have sufficient information for you to research and present to achieve the
standard. Some examples are:

providers. Research and collect written, visual and audio information that explains the
background of the organisation, vision, mission, organizational structure, governance,
strategic plan, communication strategy and other information that will assist you to provide
the following:

Activity 2 Production Houses (Performance criteria 2.1)
Select two reo Māori media production houses from the same reo Māori media that your
hapu or iwi or community may find informative when developing their own multi media
organisation.
Check with your kaiako before you proceed to ensure that the production houses have
sufficient information for you to research and present to achieve the standard.
Some examples are those companies or independent producers/companies providing
programs or articles for reo Māori media:

interviews, and collection of written, visual and audio information that can be developed
into a multi-media presentation.

Compare the two platforms in terms of their features and future uses for reo Māori media.
Develop a recommendation that may be suitable for your chosen hapu or iwi or community
to consider when establishing their own multi-media organisation. Include this
recommendation in your final presentation.
Develop your collection of information into a multi-media presentation that you can deliver
to your chosen hapu or iwi or community. Practice delivering your information to one of
your peers for feedback and then simulate the presentation to your class.
