APPENDIX B: Application for Teaching Enhancement Grants for Adjuncts
Teaching Enhancement Grants support faculty who propose to improve their teaching by
introducing new methods, ideas or strategies. The grant supports activities such as researching
new pedagogies for the purpose of adaptation in courses taught, observing or consulting with
other faculty who use an innovative approach to teaching, developing activities for a previously
taught course based on a new pedagogical approach, and developing tools to assess improvement
in teaching and learning. Applicants for this grant must demonstrate how the proposed activities
will enhance their own professional development as educators. In addition, they must describe
how the desired changes in teaching methods will impact student learning.
Awards: Teaching Enhancement Grants may be used for stipends and expenses related to the
project.
Requests for funding should be scaled to the time commitments of the proposed project: An
adjunct faculty member may apply for the full amount (up to $1000) for a project that requires
approximately 2-3 weeks of work (or its equivalent). Applicants must demonstrate how proposed
activities align with time expectations.
Examples of TEG projects that could fit this expectation:
 “Flipping” 3 modules of a 4-credit course, including development of active learning
exercises and assessment plans
 Enhancing the teaching of course by using a Team-based learning approach
 Developing online assignments/activities to facilitate converting a course to a blended
format
 Revising a course to promote inclusive excellence, including development of a syllabus
statement
 For an existing online or blended course, captioning or creating transcripts for video
materials
For smaller TEG awards: The following are examples of smaller projects requiring
approximately 1 to 2 weeks (or its equivalent) would fit guidelines for a $500 TEG award:
 Developing rubrics for assignments and building them into your Blackboard site
 Developing a new course module or topic area requiring intensive research and/or
consultation with others
 Working with an instructional designer to assess and revise your course goals, outcomes,
activities, and assessments
 Making your videos and course documents accessible for students with disabilities
Application: Submit a narrative description of your proposed project, including a project title,
no more than 4 pages in length, that includes your project goals, activities to reach your goals,
and plan for evaluating project success. Also complete the following budget table:
