College of Engineering and Computer Science 2009-2010 Scholarship Application Instructions The College of Engineering and Computer Science is once again offering scholarships to qualified full time students whose major is in the College of Engineering and Computer Science. Students who have exhibited academic excellence, in addition to strong leadership, are encouraged to apply. Financial need is not required to apply for most of these funds. To apply for a scholarship, carefully read and follow the directions below. 1. Complete the attached application fully and accurately and return it to CECS Student Services Center (Jacaranda Hall 1501) by Friday, February 27, 2009. 2. You must ask two members of the faculty to submit recommendations. Fill in the top three lines of the recommendation form and have your references complete the rest. The two people making the recommendations must send the completed form directly to the College of Engineering and Computer Science Student Services Center, JD 1501. Please do not send more than two. 3. You must submit a current copy of your transcript and DPR (if undergraduate student) along with your application. Verify that your student records are complete before submission of your application. This includes checking your DPR to make sure that all of your transfer work has been evaluated and recorded. If your records are incomplete, it is your responsibility to request any missing information from your previous institution and see that it is either affixed to your scholarship application or that your DPR has been updated. Incomplete records of applications may jeopardize your chances of receiving a scholarship. 4. All applications and essays must be typed. Handwritten essays will not be accepted. Do not underestimate the importance of your essay, and pay particular attention to grammar as well as content. Your essay will determine your overall qualification to receive a scholarship. PLEASE NOTE: All undergraduate scholarship recipients must carry a minimum of 12 units throughout the Fall and Spring semesters of the 2009-2010 academic year. Graduate scholarship recipients must carry a minimum of 6 units during each term of the same academic year. Scholarship recipients who do not carry the required minimum number of units or who change to a major outside of the College of Engineering and Computer Science will forfeit their awards. Be specific in these areas and be sure to include all pertinent material. The quality and content of your essay will determine your overall eligibility to receive a scholarship. F.
