Victor Huskie UNIV 101: Unit 4 10/20/15 Service Reflection: Feed ‘em Soup As part of the Common Reading Experience our class participated in a service project. I decided to volunteer my time at Feed ‘em Soup. This organization is a non-profit organization that helps to feed people in the DeKalb community. I was so excited to participate in this service project because I have been wanting to find ways to help out the community. One thing I learned about working at Feed ‘em Soup was that helping can be hard work. I love the fact that this organization works so hard to help feed people in the community and they do it for just that purpose alone. While working there I realized that I had to keep up at a fast pace in order to make sure that everything could stay up and running. I have to admit that I did not expect to have to work that hard but I am glad that I had this experience to let me learn. The way the people at Feed ‘em Soup were participating in the organization so selflessly reminded me of some selfless acts that Bryan Stevenson did in Just Mercy as well. It helped me regain my faith in humanity and people doing good for other people in the world. These people had something to give back. They had the means to make the world a better place and I understand now that I can use outlets such as Feed ‘em Soup and other non-profits in DeKalb community to make a difference while I am in college.
