UEET 608. MASTER’S PROJECT (1-3). Capstone master’s project which focuses on a relevant subject
area of particular interest to the student in the areas of emerging technologies such as nanotechnology, fuel
cell research, modern manufacturing and quality control, and homeland security. Student must have
completed more than 27 semester hours of the program or be in the final semester of the program. Not
available for credit for nonteachers.

534. LANGUAGE AND GENDER. Women, Men, and Language (3). Examination of empirical
evidence pertaining to language variation by sex and gender identity within the framework of
sociolinguistics. Focus on characteristics of feminine and masculine speech and conversational styles,
societal attitudes towards them, and their implications for men and women in society. Biological
foundations and sociogenesis of sex differences in language; interaction effects on language variation of
other social variables such as age, class, and ethnic identity; and crosscultural differences.

531. CONTEMPORARY ETHICAL THEORY (3). Study of issues in normative ethics and metaethics.
Topics may include consequentialism and deontology, virtue ethics, moral epistemology, theories of moral
motivation, the reality of moral properties, and the meaning of moral statements. Readings may include
classical and contemporary sources. A study of some recent developments in normative theory and
metaethics. Topics may include consequentialism, deontology, moral relativism, moral epistemology, and
theories of moral motivation. Readings selected from recent work in the field and earlier work as relevant.
