Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must:
 Be a classified graduate student in the Department of Biological Sciences at CSUS,
 Have advanced to candidacy, or will have advanced to candidacy in the semester in which they
apply,
 Have completed his/her data collection for the MS degree, or, at a minimum, one year of data
collection for the MS degree.
This completed application and the following documents must be received in the Department of
Biological Sciences Office (SQU 202) no later than 12:00 Noon, Friday, March 1, 2013:
1. Copy of graduate transcripts. Upon request, the Department can access your CSUS transcripts.
2. Proof of advancement to candidacy
3. Title of the research project/paper presentation, and a description of the research project/paper
presentation. The description shall include a paragraph of no more than 100 words summarizing the
applicant’s personal motivation for the research topic and his/her career plans. No more than two
pages (single spaced, 10 pt. Font, 1 inch margins). For application requesting research support
the description should also include a timeline for data collection, a detailed description of the
equipment and supplies to be purchased and the motivation for the purchase. For applicants
requesting paper presentation support at professional meetings, the applications should also
include proof of acceptance of the paper for presentation at a conference, workshop, symposium, or
in some other professional forum. The applicant shall also indicate whether or not they have plans
to submit the work for publication, and if so, where.
4. No more than one year after receipt of the award, the recipient shall submit to the Department, a
summary report (maximum of 1 page) of his/her use of the funds and professional benefit from the
award.
