Creating Interactive Buttons
FrontPage interactive buttons are colorful, professional-looking buttons that you can insert into your Web
pages. Interactive buttons are an easy way to help create a professional looking menu structure for those
who may be “graphically challenged”.
Here is how you create an Interactive Button.

With your cursor where you would like to place the Interactive Button, go to the Insert menu and
select Interactive Button. You will see the Interactive Button dialog box:

You will see a variety of button styles and colors. Select the button of your choice. In the text
box (where it shows Button Text) type what you want to see displayed in the button. If you type in
more text than will fit in the button, you will either have to shorten the text or enlarge the button
(more on this later). In the link cell, enter the complete URL for the hyperlink (or if you are linking
to a page in your web space, you can click on Browse and find the web page you wish to link to.

Click on the Font tab at the top of the dialog box. You will see the following:

You can select the font, style and size of the font. You may also select the color of the font to use
on the button.

Click on the Images tab at the top of the dialog box. You will see the following:

If you wish to make the button larger or smaller, use either the up or down arrows for width or
height. To maintain the proportion of the button, be sure to leave the Maintain proportions
option checked.


Uncheck the Create hover image, Create pressed image, and Preload button images
options. If you do not do this, you may (1) have buttons that do not display (sometimes a
quirk in FrontPage) and (2) you will have three images saved for EVERY button you
create.
If you are using any other background color other than white, make sure you either
change the background color to match your background color OR click on the option to
Make the button a GIF image and use a transparent background. If you do not do
one of these things, white borders around the button will display on the screen.
After you have created the button and selected all of the appropriate options, click OK. The
button will be displayed on the screen. When you save your page, you will see the Save
Embedded Files dialog box as is shown below (you will also see this box if you change a button
and then wish to save the page):
o
You can use the Rename option to change the name of your image file. This is
recommended if you plan to use many buttons as it will help you keep track of the images
created. The Change Folder option will allow to you select a different directory to store your
button image. Click OK and your page and buttons will be saved.
