Minutes of the STUDENT ASSOCIATION SENATE OF NORTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY 24 March 2013 CALL TO ORDER, ROLL CALL AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE The meeting was called to order by James Zanayed at 6:04 p.m. in the Clara Sperling Skyroom of the Holmes Student Center. Senate Clerk Chad Harris conducted a roll call of Senators. Also present were mayoral candidates John Ray and Jennifer Groce, plus Senators At Large to be and Vice President Dr. John R. Jones, with a quorum present, the meeting proceeded. Speaker Zanayed asked Senator Sarna to lead in the Pledge of Allegiance. . MEETING AND AGENDA APPROVAL Speaker Zanayed motions to approve last meetings minutes. Speaker Zanayed motions to move agenda items B and C from new business to old business and to pass the items as consent agenda. Motion passes. SPEAKER’S REPORT Next week there is no Senate Meeting (Observance of Easter) Addressed Attendance issues within the Senate itself. Will be meeting with those at (2/3) Senate will be voting on the budget 2 weeks from today. SA week is approaching, Get your friends involved and get the attendance high. Student Choice Awards are this week, try to attend as there will be senators and your peers receiving said awards. Went to Naperville Campus to give opinion on the next President of NIU Expressed the disgust of the problems within the NIU Administration, Students are “tired” of defending the issues that give us a negative image. Time was Yielded to Mayoral Candidate John Ray Time was Yielded to Mayoral Candidate Jennifer Groce COMMITTEE REPORT(S) Chairman Domke, Athletics and Student Involvement Athletics Committee meeting in the Skyroom 3/24/13 after Senate Deputy Speaker Theodore Board of Elections: Tuesday and Wednesday, working to make sure the booths are setup and secured. If anyone needs more flyers contact the SA and/or Deputy Speaker Theodore for additions. EXECUTIVE BRANCH REPORT(S) President Delonte Leflore Need more participation from students in getting more people out to vote. Mayoral Elections, We need to hold them accountable on their promises, Express the concerns of the students. Student Association opinion on concealed carry/ assault weapons. NIU Cares day is 4/20 for those of you trying to get involved. Article 3: Strike Section c Appointment of Officers – Replace with C: Election of officers – The officers shall be elected by club membership and determined by majority vote at a regularly scheduled meeting.
