POSSIBLE SOLUTION(S)
Check to see if tutor attempted to contact you. Check to see if
you know where you’re supposed to meet. Contact the tutor.
You may also call SSWD to see if the tutor called and left a
message. Remember that you and the tutor need to contact
each other in advance if you cannot make a session (see
contract).
Clarify that it is important that both of you maintain your
scheduled appointments as agreed. Remember that you and
the tutor need to contact each other if you are running late for a
session (see contract). If this is an ongoing issue, see the
Support Services Coordinator.
Give your tutor feedback, beginning at your first session, and
throughout the semester. Be as clear as you can about the
material that is confusing to you, and why. Always let your tutor
know how they are doing and if you need more review in a
certain area.
Communicate your goals and expectations, and ask the tutor for
theirs. Periodically review these goals and expectations (for
example, after every three sessions or after every test).
Remember that the goal of tutoring is for you to pass the class
so you can continue with your education. If you have more
specific goals for tutoring, it is up to you to communicate these
with your tutor. If after this you still need help, see the Support
Services Coordinator.
Tutoring is not an exact science and it may take time before
sessions flow smoothly. You must be prepared for sessions by
completing all assignments and readings before you meet with
your tutor. Remember that the tutor’s job is not to teach you the
course material, but to help you find your strengths and
weaknesses with the information you receive from lectures,
readings, and assignments. Discuss your concerns with the
tutor and work together to form goals for the sessions. If after
this you still need help, see the Support Services Coordinator.
The tutor should ask you for your signature on the last work day
prior to the due date for submitting payroll paperwork. If you
suspect that they are not adhering to this procedure, notify the
Support Services Coordinator immediately. You are
responsible for reviewing all forms you sign and asking for any
corrections.
