POSSIBLE SOLUTION(S)
Check to see if notetaker attempted to contact you. If not,
contact the notetaker. You may also call SSWD to see if the
notetaker called and left a message. Look for patterns and
remember that you and the notetaker need to contact each
other in advance if you cannot make a class session (see
contract).
Give your notetaker feedback, beginning on day one of the
assignment, and throughout the semester. Ask for more details
if needed and be specific. If improvement does not continue
ask to make an appointment with the Support Services
Coordinator and bring your Notetaker with you. Always let your
Notetaker know how they are doing and if you need more visual
clues such as asterisks, underlining, indentation, etc.
Don’t jump to conclusions. Sit close to your notetaker and let
them know that you want them to take notes on particular things
being said or discussed in class. Give them feedback more
often. Regularly, indicate to your Notetaker how important their
work is to you.
All notetakers are screened for legible handwriting and spelling.
If you cannot read the notes, please let the Support Services
coordinator know and bring in examples. Don’t wait too long to
get the notes you need.
You should be looking at your notes daily and clarifying
anything with the professor that the notetaker may not be able
to, given they are not reading the course text and cannot be as
familiar with terminology as you. If the problem is significant
and cannot be corrected after your efforts to clarify your notes,
please meet with the Support Services Coordinator or speak to
your professor.
Let the notetaker know if this is a pattern. Clarify that it is
important that you touch base with him/her before class begins
and require that they arrive on time like yourself. You must be
the first to approach the notetaker. If after this you still need
help, see the Support Services Coordinator.
The notetaker should ask you for your signature on the last
work day prior to the due date for submitting payroll paperwork.
If you suspect that they are not adhering to this procedure,
notify the Support Services Coordinator immediately. You are
responsible for reviewing all forms you sign and asking for any
corrections.
