A critique in art is an oral or written discussion intended to describe, analyze,
interpret and judge a piece of art work.

What do you see in the picture?
What colors did the artist use?
Is it realistic or abstract?
Is there a description by the art work?
Analyze
 What elements of art are used in the art work?
 How was the piece of art made?
 What is the subject matter (people, animals, objects,
buildings) doing in the picture?
Interpret
 How does the art make you feel when you look at it?
 Does it remind you of something you have experienced?
 What do you think the artist is trying to say?
Judge
 Do you like it or not like it? Why?
 What makes it successful? What makes it a failure?
 Compare and Contrast it to another piece of art.
