General (tentative) Guidelines – Requirements for MScF/MScFE Program

Ordinarily a minimum of two years is needed to complete a MScF/MScFE degree.

Every student is required to:

1.

Work with your supervisor in organizing an Advisory Committee;

2.

Meet with advisory committee (within the first term) to design a plan of study and discuss thesis research study field/topic/title;

3.

Submit a graduate project/research-study plan (GF3001-04);

4.

Develop a written thesis proposal and submit to Advisory Committee for approval (GF3014) –

(follow the SGS regulations for thesis guidelines Regulations and Guidelines for the

Preparation and Submission of Graduate Theses and Reports available on SGS web site - http://www.unb.ca/gradschl/guidelines/index.html

- revised cover pg enclosed);

5.

Present thesis proposal to the GAU (within the first 8 months after initial registration);

6.

Complete course requirements (including the required courses of the GAU);

7.

Complete an annual SGS progress report (GF3012) and submit to DoGS by July 31 st , of each year of enrollment;

8.

Conduct thesis research and write a thesis;

9.

Present a draft of thesis to the Advisory Committee;

10.

Obtain acceptance of the thesis by the Advisory Committee (GF3006);

11.

Submit thesis to DoGS for format approval (checklist for students submitting final copies enclosed);

12.

Submit required number of thesis to be distributed to the Examining Committee by DoGS for reading and approval to proceed with the oral defense;

13.

Orally defend thesis to Examining Committee and the University Community (final approval of the thesis occurs at the oral examination);

14.

Complete required corrections as required by the Examining Committee;

15.

Submit the final copies of the thesis and associated paper work to SGS.

Should check for conformity with respect to established thesis guidelines and for consistency throughout

An Examining Committee is recommended by Advisory Committee on form GF3006 and invited by the DoGS

To decide whether the thesis is defendable.

Final approval is done at the oral defense

To ascertain whether the candidate has a thorough understanding of the thesis, is able to present it competently, and to defend it convincingly Thesis is acceptable based on the originality, contribution to research and suitable for publication in a refereed and reputable journal

To complete fulfillment of degree requirements and to clear the way for approval at higher university levels. It is the student's responsibility to make certain that the documentation is completed and signed, the required number of copies of the thesis are made and everything is delivered to the

Graduate School within the deadline date set by the Graduate School for graduation
