Media Services and Development

Please note ACS ’ new name and added services. Services provided through the department include web services, system services, digital media research and development, the Copy

Center, and faculty support. Staff members include Sharon Ainsley, Veronica Giguere, Nikki

Hoier, Rosary Pedriera, Rhian Resnick and Dee Dee Pannell.

Proposals have been received from Mathworks (MatLab) and SPSS for site licensing. A recommendation is requested from ACITC. See attached for full information. An RFP is in progress for Copy Center activities. The copier fleet and the Copy Center operations are RFP considerations.

The Applied Computing Center –Staff have begun work on a video project to document the patenting process training for Dr. Carolyn Fausnaugh. The project incorporates film, animation, audio, and text. Digital media training is a regular activity in the Center. Staff and students have recently begun a 20 hour training series on Photoshop.

Recent digital production activities include:

Burned 1800 images to DVDs for Dr. Shenker, Biology

Converted hurricane animations from NOAA and other universities for Dr. Maul and John

Williams for their DMES seminar and lectures

Assisted CAPS personnel with converting 60 35mm slides into jpegs fro importing into

PowerPoint

Completed 10 video surveys (6 more to go) for fulfilling university grant requirements

System Services – Staff are continuing to work on back end programming to streamline computer account generation and distribution. Mass student account disable completed. Faculty and staff accounts will be processed next.

Web Services and the Web Advisory Board – Last month’s Load Control power outage information was posted from the web Home Page. In addition to the initial announcement residential student info was posted. New text “High Tech with a Human Touch” has been applied to the Florida Tech web pages.
