MINUTES – 5/4/2007

1. University College:

(a)

Approved with two abstentions new courses in support of new programs:

(1) EHR 3360 Compensation & Benefits [see EHR 3360.pdf]

[see EHR 3360_expanded.pdf]

College of Science Failed by vote of 3 ‘for’, 7 ‘against’, 4 ‘abstain’

(a) new courses in support of new programs:

(2) EDS 1021 General Physical Science [see EDS 1021.pdf]

(3) EDS 1022 General Biological Science [see EDS 1022.pdf]

Comments on above vote: There is less hands on, less science, more history. There were objections to lack of science in the course. Dr. Blenis stated they do not have faculty or time to change these “UA” courses to Florida Tech courses. Her department agreed these would be accepted as transfer credit for

EDS 1031 & 1032 but would not be what was taught on campus.

Members would like to see content toughened up – it was expressed that the content is too high school.

Also requested some virtual experiments and to take the history out of the course.

The concern was expressed that these students have no other options except these two courses whereas on campus students do have options.

Members would like to see the text because nothing substantial about it was located on the internet.

This is my summary of comments and is not intended to be inclusive or exhaustive of what was discussed.

2. University College: As amended to include MTH 1000 or greater rather than two named
