MENTORING PROCESS AA PHILOSOPHY: Academic Affairs (AA) believes that positive student interaction and quality classroom instruction are integral components of student learning and student success. As meeting students’ needs requires highly-skilled, adaptable, and dedicated faculty, AA has initiated a formalized AA Mentoring Program for faculty. The AA Mentoring Program supports the goals of CNM’s Strategic Direction as stated below: Student Success: Expand CNM’s caring approach to student success Partnerships/Community Building: Create and enhance a systemic approach to partnerships and community building Diversity: Build on CNM’s multifaceted diversity Identity: Strengthen CNM’s comprehensive identity College Success and Sustainability: Innovate to sustain CNM’s success for future generations RATIONALE/PURPOSE: The primary purpose of AA’s Mentoring Program is to help faculty members understand our College’s culture and experience success while partnering with a seasoned professional. The mentor/mentee relationship provides opportunities to: Share skills and knowledge that increase College and School awareness Establish new relationships and partnerships while building upon community Develop professionally in areas that support and sustain the College/School Increase mentee’s likelihood of success in the College/School Thrive in a community that values support while addressing challenges Appreciate diverse interpersonal, instructional, and learning styles Affirm high standards by modeling and promoting excellence in education Enhance students’ experiences in academic interaction Enrich students’ experiences during classroom instruction Provide a basis for and appreciation of lifelong learning REQUIRED FORMS/DOCUMENTS: MENTORING PROCESS MENTORING AGREEMENT MENTORING CHECKLIST FOR FACULTY PLUS/DELTA FORM Mentoring Process Page 1 of 2 Created: 02/12/2014 Revised: 06/13/2014 MENTORING PROCESS AA Mentoring Process The mentoring process will be a requirement for all faculty hired at CNM. The process will take place immediately upon hire of new faculty. The process may also be used for existing faculty. New faculty are hired and attend HR New Employee orientation. New faculty meet with supervisor to review School policies, processes and complete necessary paperwork. Faculty are assigned a mentor by supervisor. Mentor schedules first meeting and mentoring agreement is reviewed and signed. Mentor and mentee begin checklist. At the conclusion of the mentoring period, checklist is signed by faculty, mentor and supervisor. Future goals are identified. Determination is made if mentoring is to continue and if so for what duration. Plus/Delta forms are completed and returned to the administrative coordinator. Requirements of Mentor Prior to serving as a mentor, the mentor should review College/School policies and processes. Full-time faculty preferred (Ideally all full time faculty will be trained as mentors) Part-time faculty allowed to mentor other part-time faculty with dean’s approval. Minimum of one year employment with CNM is recommended. Schedule regular meetings with mentee. Observe mentee’s class. Coordinate a class observation to be done by mentee.
