Please note: This bullet points below are not meant to be a checklist; they are guidelines for observing certain aspects of teaching an online class. The primary goal of the observation is to observe online instruction and course delivery, not course design.

• Instructor has posted a welcome discussion about him or herself, providing some interesting facts and humor, eliciting curiosity about the course and/or him or herself.

• Within the weekly course work instructor continually gains student attention.

• Etiquette expectations for discussions, email and other forms of communication are clearly stated.
