Skype and uses within the clinic setting (Oct 2010) presented with Gayle Daly
Presentation was based on the use of Skype in the clinical setting at Longwood
University. It was reported that Longwood has implemented using Skype for
training of clinical faculty, clinical teaching teams and meeting with students and
supervisors. It assists the faculty in reducing travel cost and talking live to
members of the team.

DLVE program (Oct 2010) presented with Lissa Power-deFur
Reported on the creation of the DLVE-SLP program and how it works. The
presentation focused on the process of developing the program to how it works
currently. Dr. Power-deFur reported on the upstart of the thinking behind
developing a program in this format and what steps were taken to ensure that it
was a success. Then I provided information on how the process has evolved since
accepting our first cohort in summer 2007.
Autism Presentation for the Methodist Foundation
Methodist Center, Blackstone VA
 In-service presentation on how to incorporate children with autism in the Sunday
school classroom. The presentation focused on children between the ages of 0-18
years of age. Provided information on what types of strategies the teacher could
incorporate to make the child and caregiver feel at ease when leaving them in the
class. How to incorporate other children in the techniques and social learning.
Included examples of schedules, task organizers, etc.
Reviewer for ASHA Schools Conference (Spring 2009)
In-Service Presentation on Children with Autism-Ages 2 and up
Winchester Public Schools
 In-service discussing the language development and progression of autism in
children spanning from toddler to pre-teen. Provided information on different
types of autism and their progression and discussed therapy techniques to help
improve language skills. Also discussed pragmatic techniques, including
scheduling and augmentative communication to increase expressive and receptive
language skills.
Round Table Discussion Difficulties of a School Language Pathologist
NBASLA (National Black Association of Speech Language Pathologist)
 Round Table discussion on the difficulties that SLP’s are presented with within
the school system. Including IEP’s, retention, dismissal, caseload management,
etc. As the leader of the discussion, I was responsible for presenting ideas and
problems that might be addressed and ask for suggestions on how other therapist
handle the issues within their area or state. SLP’s were represented from several
different states including California, Illinois, Virginia, Maryland, etc.
Speech and Language Development for new Kindergarten students
Lunenburg County Public Schools
 Provided handouts that displayed typical development of a 5 or 6 year old and
what constitutes a delay. Also discussed the difference between speech
impairment and language impairment. Discussed what each child was going to be
screened for at the beginning of the year by the SLP, and what steps follow the
initial screening process.
In-Service Presentation on Augmentative Communication and New Devices
Lunenburg County Public Schools
 This was an in-service for Special Education and Regular Ed Instructors to inform
them of new technology and instruments that had been developed and would be
beneficial to the regular and special education population. As part of the Assistive
Technology team, we would meet with teachers on a regular basis to update
information and provide them with instruments that would help them perform
tasks within the class.
