Dr. Koyzis called the meeting to order at 3:30 pm.
The minutes of the November 5, 2009 meeting were presented, corrections/additions requested, and hearing
none, Dr. Emerson-Stonnell made a motion to approve the minutes, Mrs. Carroll-Hackett seconded, and the
minutes were unanimously approved.
Dr. Koyzis announced that program change forms were online and he urged everyone that wanted a program
change to use the new forms.
The next item on the agenda was the Five- Year Teacher Education Program. Dr. Jeannine Perry shared with the
committee the work of the group.
Mrs. Abbey O’Connor shared with the committee that the College of Business and Economics, in conjunction with
the Cook-Cole College of Arts and Sciences, were in agreement with the possibility of offering a five-year program
in business. In the fourth year of the student’s undergraduate degree process, he/she could take a number of
electives and 5 business courses and in the fifth year apply to the graduate program for the Five- Year MBA.
The Sociology Major Curriculum issue was tabled until the December meeting so a member of the Sociology
program could be present. Dr. Burger shared with the committee the new program/concentration in Sociology.
Dr. Power-deFur moved to approve, Dr. Kat Tracy seconded and the Sociology curriculum changes were approved.
Sociology Major
Course change – SOCL 502 – Change course description and course is being cross listed with SOCL 402.
New Program/Concentration - Creation of a five-year bachelor’s/master’s program in criminal justice. The
master’s degree in this concentration will be 30 credit hours and require a comprehensive examination. Students
must be admitted to the five-year program by the beginning of their junior year. Final admission to the graduate
year will go through the regular graduate admission process during the final semester of their bachelor’s degree.
The Chair adjourned the Graduate Committee meeting at 4:10 p.m. The next meeting will be Thursday, February
4, 2010 in the Prince Edward room from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
