Postgraduate Induction 2014
School of Life Sciences
Thursday, 18 September
10.00am – 11.00am Induction for Postgraduate Life Sciences Students (Chichester Lecture
Theatre)
New full-time UK postgraduates in Life Sciences who have not registered online can do so
between 11.45am and 13.00pm on Level 2 of Bramber House
Tours of the Library and Careers and Employability Centre will be running throughout the
day, between 11am and 3pm. Tours leave every 30 minutes and depart from the Open
Learning Space in the Library.
16.15pm – 17.15pm Welcome for new International PG Students (Jubilee Lecture theatre)
Friday, 19 September
New full-time international postgraduates in Life Sciences who have not registered online,
can do so between 13.30pm and 16.30pm on Level 2 of Bramber House
18.30pm – 20.30pm Fireworks and BBQ to celebrate the new academic year (Library
Square)
Monday, 22 September, School Induction
2.00pm Venue: Attenborough Centre Creativity Zone (Pevensey 3C7)– Welcome talk by
Prof. George Kemenes (Director of Doctoral Studies) followed by:
Talk by Tabitha Ellwood, Student Life Centre
2.30pm MSc students leave for talk by Dr Neil Crickmore, Venue: John Maynard Smith
Building JMS 4D12-13
Specific programme for PhD and MPhil students (remain in same venue)
Talk by Prof. George Kemenes, Director of Doctoral Studies
Talk by Helen Hampson, Research Development Officer, Doctoral School
Talk by Helen Webb, Library Research Support
Talk by a Research Hive Scholar
Students meet Research Degree Conveners and take students for a brief tour

Boundary Walk led by Martyn Stenning. Meet in front of JMS foyer by the entrance at 12.30
pm
(This walk will introduce you to the layout of the University, and will be punctuated with
information about the history of the Downs (Dunes), the University and the wildlife that we
encounter. You will see Badger’s setts, woodland, open down-land, and may see buzzards,
green woodpeckers, and the biggest Ginkgo Bilboa you ever did see. To learn more about
