Translation for China Week News Article “Confucius Institute Online” and “Hanban.Org” October 10-17 in order to more broadly promote the Chinese culture and language network platform— the new Confucius Institute Online, the Akron University Confucius Institute held their third grand "China Week" series of activities. "China Week" is the University of Akron Confucius Institute’s signature cultural promotion activity. Centering at the University of Akron and radiating to the entire Akron community, this 8-day ‘China Week’ event launched 38 brilliant Chinese-culture-promoting projects, covering the Chinese economy, education, policy, history, geography, science and technology, language, calligraphy, painting, clothing, food, animals, Sino-US relations and attracting about 4,700 participants. Two [we actually broadcast three] of the lectures were sent thousands of miles away to Henan University in China through a remote conference system, creating a cultural bridge between the two universities. "China Week" provided eight Akron area high schools with a special opportunity to create "experience Chinese culture day" for nearly 300 students who participated in activities like calligraphy, martial arts, tea ceremonies and Beijing Opera to experience the essence of Chinese culture, and through a fierce essay competition tested their Chinese skills and demonstrated their language proficiency while also learning more about the variety of rich learning resources on the new Confucius Institute Online platform. Many types of cultural experiences point toward demonstrating the abundance of Chinese culture and the gathering of experts from fields points toward an inquiry into the elegance of Chinese culture. Two time Pulitzer Prize winning New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristoff and the first Asian Pulitzer Prize winner Sheryl WuDunn delivered a wonderful lecture on the evening of October 17th at The University of Akron auditorium on ‘Reflections on Contemporary China’s Challenges’ to conclude “China Week” activities.
