Office for Learning & Teaching Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning 2016 Nomination Checklist Formatting Guidelines Applications are read on the screen and the following formatting requirements apply to ALL PARTS of the Nomination Documents must be A4 page size Font allowable: 11 point Arial or 11 point Calibri. Narrow fonts are not to be used Margins: at least 2cm with clear definitions between paragraphs. No columns to be used Word and page limits will be strictly enforced It is strongly recommended that nominations are proofread prior to submission Early Career Nominees with no more than five years’ experience teaching in a higher education institution, including tutoring and part time teaching, may apply for an Early Career Citation. The five years can be non-sequential and must be counted on a semester basis. Eligibility of previous recipients Individual Citation recipients are not eligible for individual renomination within five years of receiving a Citation (i.e., if a recipient in 2013, they are not eligible to reapply until 2018). Previous recipients of Citations are eligible to renominate within five years of receiving the citation if they form part of a team nomination but are not the lead nominee. The team nomination should be for teaching or programmes that do not substantially replicate the original Citation. A recipient of a Teaching or Programme Award (including Carrick and ALTC Awards) can only nominate if they form part of a team nomination but are not the lead nominee. Nomination Form Description of Citation (max 25 words). It informs the broadest possible audience about the work of the nominee Describe the discipline or field of work and distinctive contribution of the nominee / s. Avoid jargon and specific CSU phrases or acronyms Synopsis Wording (max 75 words) – Describe the distinctive contribution to student learning and engagement and the resulting impact on students Written in the third person Describe the distinctive contribution to student learning and engagement and the resulting impact on students Correct selection criteria is ticked - ONE only Nominee’s declaration tick all four boxes Signed by the Nominee / Team representative Vice-Chancellor/Chief Executive Officer or delegate endorsement has been provided Team Nominations (if applicable) Details of all team members are correct Teams with more than five members, a separate list may be attached If more than 5 team members Contribution of each member expressed as a percentage Written Statement Written Statement contains the following component, in order: 1. Proposed Citation (max 25 words). avoid jargon and include the discipline or field of work and the distinctive contribution of the nominee or team; the citation should inform the broadest possible audience about the work of the nominee 2. Summary of the particular contribution and its specific context 1 DSL 3. Statement addressing the chosen criterion and providing evidence of the contribution. Nomination will be judged against one chosen criterion on the extent to which it shows evidence, innovation, leadership and scholarship and the ways the contribution has: a. influenced student learning, engagement and/or the overall student experience b. been recognised by fellow staff, the institution, and/or the broader community c. been sustained over time for a period of no less than 3 years (2 years for Early Career nominations) Written Statement formatted correctly (as per Formatting Guidelines above) Written Statement is limited to four A4 pages. Excess pages will not be accepted It should not be assumed that assessors have a detailed knowledge of the discipline Team nominations must include an additional page which explains the role and indicates the percentage contribution of team members All claims meet the selection criteria, are supported by evidence and the evidence is included in the written statement References Two references: One must be from the head of the nominee’s faculty, department, school or administrative unit Provided by people able to comment on the nominee’s contribution to student learning against the nominated criterion Each reference is no more than one A4 page each References must be signed by the Referees. Electronic signatures are acceptable Referee’s must be provided with a copy of the Privacy Notice They must include an acknowledgement that they accept the Privacy Notice in their reference. For example, ‘I accept the Privacy Notice provided by the nominee’. For Team nominations, references should apply to the team. Digital Photograph (.JPEG) Photograph is not to be included on written material. The image must be submitted as a separate, clearly labelled file A formal, colour, head-and-shoulders photograph with a white background Images from webcams or mobile phones are not satisfactory Team photographs should be one image with the group together The image should be provided as a JPEG file with image resolution of 300 dpi at the size of printing approximately 10 cm by 10 cm; as a guide, the size of the file must be at least 1 MB Photograph criteria is important, as digital photographs are used for publication purposes Submission to Contact Officer Submit electronic copies of the following to Tania Cowgill, DSL by Monday, 14 March 2016 Nomination Form, Written Statement, Two references, and .jpeg of nominee / s Please Note: Attach the individual items to one email.
