Laurie has decided that she could take a shortcut and calculate the average sales
per guest for the week by adding Monday through Sunday’s average sales per
guest and dividing by seven. Would this shortcut make a difference in her total
average sales per guest for the week? If so, how much of a difference? Should
she take this shortcut? Why or why not?
Bina Nusantara University
Answer: The shortcut would make a difference of $0.06 ($5.25 - $5.19). She
should not take this shortcut because she would be overstating the average sales
per guest.

If you were Gil, would you order more than you think you would need? Why or why
not? If so, how much more would you order?
Answer: Gil should order 1½ to 2 times the amount predicted. First, since this is in a
hotel, the inventory will be used. Second, if the wedding for the mayor’s daughter was
not run perfectly, it would hurt the hotel and probably cost Gil his job. Therefore, it is
better to be safe than sorry.
