Semester-VI
ETCE- 308
Max. Marks: 75
1. Explain the following briefly.
a. Various gauges of Indian railways.
b. Signaling and interlocking.
c. Shield tunneling.
d. Break waters classification and types.
e. Environmental requirements for Airport projects.
2. (a) Draw the typical cross section of Indian railway.
(b) On a transition curve on B. G. track , the speed by railway board’s speed formula:
Vs=4.35√(𝑅 − 67) is 1.25 times the maximum speed attain by the cant formula, after
allowing the cant deficiency of 7.6 cm. If the actual cant provided is the equilibrium cant
for an average speed of 60 Kmph.
Calculate (1) the radius in meter (2) maximum speed (Vmax) and (3) the cant to be
actually provided.

(a) Describe various type of switches in railway track.
(6)
(b) Calculate the elements required to set out a 1 in 12 turnout taking off from a straight
B.G. track with its curve starting from the toe of the switch, i. e. tangential to the gauge face
of the outer main rail and passes through T.N.C., given that the heel divergence as 11.4cm.

OR
(a) State the various method of p[late laying and widely used in India.
(b) Describe some modern methods of track maintenance
4. Describe various methods of Tunneling in soft ground and hard rock.

(b) Determine the turning radius of a taxiway for a supersonic aircraft with a wheel base
of 30m and tread of main loading gear as 72m. The aircraft negotiates the curve at a
speed of 65 kmph. The airport is of type as per ICAO(assume the coefficient of friction
between tyre and pavement surface as 0.13)
