Tuesday Objectives: The students will demonstrate their understanding of the story, “Wayside School is Falling Down”, Chap. 17 “What.” Students will be able to demonstrate their interpretation of the story “Wayside School is Falling Down,” Chap. 17 “What.” Materials: “Wayside School is Falling Down.” Chap 17, “What” Discussion questions Chalkboard and chalk Stories written by students Activities: 1. Students will hand in discussion questions. 2. As a class, we will answer #7 of the discussion worksheet, “List the main events of the story.” We will do this on the chalkboard, having a different student coming forward to write each event on the board in order. (15 minutes) Read aloud to the class and make sure everyone agrees with final summary written on the board. 3. We will finalize the discussion of the story by answering the rest of the questions from the worksheet as a class. Teacher led/students answering questions (5 minutes). 4. Teacher will hand out previously written stories by students from last week. 5. The students will have the rest of the class period to rewrite their story backwards. The students are able to revise their story to make it fit this rubric. 6. Hand out short stories and vocabulary worksheet for the assignment. Evaluation: The students will complete the discussion questions for “Wayside School is Falling Down,” Chap. 17. These will be turned in at the beginning of class. The students will participate in the class activity of writing the events of the story on the board. The students will use their previously written stories and create their own backwards story. The students will hand in the original story and the revision for credit points. Assignment: For Wednesday, the students will read a group of short stories in a handout: “Reuinon,” “Erring Dirty Laundry,” “Perfect Opening Line,” and “Escape Claws.” The students will complete the vocabulary worksheet.
