WHO’S DRIVING Let’s all drive the same car and keep everyone equal. Make everyone get their license at the same age no matter what circumstances they have. Don’t make some kids suffer and some get rights to have their licenses earlier. It just makes sense to keep everyone equal and not to shut out a certain few. If one suffers, let all suffer together. I have shown a few reasons why some other kids get more privileges than others do. Lets just hope they soon make everyone equal. As it states in the Declaration of Independence, that all men are created equal, so make the driving age equal. My first reason why the driving laws of age are unequal is that people are allowed to get farm permits at the age of 15. Well this is in Minnesota; I am not sure about other states, but this a big factor to me. By people able to get farm permits is so they can go on farm errands, to help out their parents for the work. Well what I have seen in my time of this, is that many of the people don’t use them for that. They just consider it as getting their license at 15 and not having to wait until they are 16 like some other people. And when someone gets just the regular permit, they have to wait 6 months before they are eligible to take the license test, even if they just turned 16 when they got the permit. But if someone gets a farm permit, that eliminates the 6-month wait, and that person doesn’t have to sit around like other youngsters do. When they turn 16, they get the original license. By this effect, it has made many people very unhappy. Making some people suffer because they don’t live on a farm or just out of town without a farm. This is not proven fact, but from what I have seen, about 70-80% of the people that get farm permits, do not use them for farm purposes. But I am not saying there are no people out there using them for the right purpose. Some may be using farm permits for the right reason. My second statement is that a lot of states have different age limits on when someone can get their license. In South Dakota, people are eligible to get it when they are 14. And in Minnesota they are eligible to get it at age16. In most states, the legal age is 16. In Florida, the legal age is 16, but they are thinking of changing it to 18 (Posting by Kids, Florida Legislature). If they did that, then many states might follow in their footsteps and do the same thing. By that, it would make many citizens unhappy. Then people will start to bicker about changing other legal ages for different things. Like drinking age for the main reason. In one of the New England states, cant remember exactly which one, but the legal driving age was u16.5 (Pruitt, Kathy, Barnes Backs 17 As Legal Driving Age). I mean that is just ridiculous. Just make it all simple and put down the same age and keep it that way. Preferably everyone would like it all to be 16. And my final statement is that by not having the same driving age in all states and making everyone equal is it makes a lot of people unhappy. It just causes corruption between people and states. Some people don’t mind the way it is right now, but in my opinion I think it should change somehow. People do fight about this sort of thing all the time. I have seen it. That is why it should change. The citizens of the United States are sick of listening to everyone complain about the laws and the way others are getting treated unequal. So by doing this it would make many people very happy. In conclusion, I think that this is a major issue to the people of the United States. It would make everyone happier and make everyone equal like it should be. No matter what privileges they may have or need. It should all be the same. And some people want to make the age older for some to get their license. And they say that kids cause the most accidents out of anyone. But there are so many kids driving now, that it is just a little percentage that are the cause. Many kids driving now days are better drivers than adults, and these are the people that complain about kids driving. Just because some people have been driving longer than kids, doesn’t mean they should be putting the blame on them. Just as many adults have accidents as kids do, so the age doesn’t matter. So there is no sense of raising the age limit for licenses, like Florida is intending on doing. And if anyone should say people drive bad, senior citizens on the roads are partially the cause of accidents. Not even going the speed limit and holding up traffic, just another reason why they shouldn’t blame the kids. Just like our forefathers had stated, every man should be created equal. So lets keep their word, and make it equal.
