Courtney King College Composition I Persuasive Essay Marijuana usage in medical facilities should be allowed. Many studies have given new evidence to why marijuana should be in medical facilities. Many researchers have found new results describing the benefits of marijuana in medical facilities. One of the new ways that have been discovered was a cure for intractable hiccups. One such case of this was published in the British medical journal Lancet. A patient with AIDS underwent surgery; the following morning he developed persistent hiccups. He was treated with marijuana and his hiccups were gone. The doctors had tried many other medical drugs and none of helped. The only thing that did help was marijuana (Gilson and Busalacchi). Besides curing the hiccups the use of marijuana in medical facilities is very beneficial. It can be essential in relieving nausea caused by chemotherapy, increase appetites of those who are suffering with AIDS, and decrease some of the symptoms of multiple sclerosis (Brookhiser). Many patients around the world have turned to marijuana to help them relieve some of the pains of their diseases and ailments. Although marijuana is not legalized in medical institutes, doctors have told their patients to continue using the marijuana but they do not discourage their patients from using it. The doctors cannot prescribe the illegal drug, as using marijuana is a crime. So many states are insisting that marijuana be legalized. Many patients have benefited from this drug when many other drugs have failed. Some people fear that in legalizing marijuana new addictions or bad habits will arise. If people were worried about new addictions why do we have so many other drugs that are addicting that are legal. There are so many drugs in the world right now that can be very addicting and if the person does that have that certain drug the will go into withdrawal. The usage of marijuana in medical facilities should be legalized as shown in the past paragraphs. Marijuana can help when other drugs have failed. Many people who have not tried marijuana may be helped if doctors were able to prescribe this drug.
