Good afternoon, Mr. Ho. We are students from St. Francis’
Canossian College. We think that your occupation is very interesting.
May we have the pleasure to invite you to have a short interview?
Ans.: Okay!
How did you choose this job? How long have you been making
and repairing umbrellas?
Ans.: I think that everyone in the society should have a job and I
think that my skills in making and repairing umbrellas is quite
good, so I decided to take this as my occupation. I have been making and
repairing umbrellas for a really long time. Since 1945, I had already been
making and repairing umbrellas.
Why are you so interested in this occupation?
Ans.: Well, it’s because I think making and repairing umbrellas is fun!
Besides, I can help people, so that people can have umbrellas to use in
rainy days.
What have you learned through this occupation?
Ans. I have learned how to make umbrellas. I always make some
beautiful and creative umbrellas.
What was the experience that made you proud in this job?
Ans.: I’m really proud that I have made the world’s most expensive
umbrella in 1994. My umbrellas had entered the Guinness World
Records. Each umbrella was sold £167. I was so happy about this.
Will you recommend your children to do this job?
Ans.: I would like my children to join in this~~~, but they doesn’t
want to.
If you have a choice, will you still choose this occupation?
Ans.: Yes, I will still choose to use my hands to make and repair
umbrellas. I always think that hand made things are the best.
Are you satisfied with the money you earned in this
occupation?
Ans.: I don’t really earn much but I can earn enough for a living. I’m
quite satisfied already.
Why do you still persist to make and repair umbrellas?
Ans.: I just think that the society must have someone to make and
repair umbrellas and I am interested in this occupation, so I persist to
do it.
What are the procedures of making an umbrella?
Ans.: First, I cut and sew cloth by myself and then use threads
and needles to make an umbrella.
Which type of customers will buy your umbrellas?
Ans.: All types of customers around the world will buy my umbrellas.
Even foreigners from Japan, Singapore, America, etc. will come to
Hong Kong and find me.
Q.11. Who taught you how to make umbrellas?
Ans.: I learned it myself.
Were your mother and father umbrella makers?
Ans.: No, they were merchants.

Ans.: You’re welcome.
Mr. Ho works in a ‘Mini coffee factory’ and had been doing this job
for more than 50 years. The job of Mr. Ho is to turn the uncooked
coffee beans to baked ones. Mr. Ho and his old machines do all the
process of baking coffee beans. We have interviewed him and found
that his machines are really interesting and old. Many newspapers
and magazines have interviewed him. Although he is working alone,
he said that he is having great fun in baking coffee beans.

Good afternoon, Mr. Ho. We are students from St. Francis’
Canossian College. We think that your occupation is very

Sure!
How long have you been baking coffee beans?
I have been baking coffee beans since 1950. That
means I have done this job for about 54 years.
Oh, it is really a very long time. Then, why are you so
interested in this occupation?
There is just one reason. Because I LOVE to drink
coffee!
What have you learn through this occupation?
Of course I learn how to make coffee! Ha! Also, I learn
the skills of how to make some good coffee beans and choose
good quality beans.
What was the experience that made you proud in
this job?
When I heard my customers they say that “Oh, the coffee
in Olympia tastes very good!” I would be very happy, excited
and proud of doing this job.
What are the procedures of baking coffee beans?
Firstly, I buy some coffee beans, which are in good quality.
Secondly, I burn the coffee beans and put the burnt coffee beans
in to the machine. Then I pick them. Lastly, I will sell them
department stores, restaurants and hotels.

Which types of customers will buy your coffee beans?
All types! Most probably are the local customers, department
stores, restaurants and hotels. Also, of course the COFFEE
LOVERS!
Were your parents’ coffee makers?
No.
Who taught you how to bake coffee?
I worked in a coffee factory in the past. So I learn how to burn
coffee.
Will you recommend your children to do this job?
Of course! I want my children do burn coffee. However, they do
not want to do so.
If you have a choice, will you still choose this occupation?
Yes, because I haven’t got well education, so this occupation is the
most
suitable for me. Also, I am very familiar with this
occupation. So I want to apply my skills to make more nice coffee.

As we said before, we found Mr. Ho’s coffee shop
in a surprise way. We smelt the brewed coffee and it is a
