Westside High School Lesson Plan Teacher Name: Course: Prep Geometry Team Prep Geometry Unit Name and #: Dates: Tranformations 4/13-4/17 Monday What are we learning? Daily Objective: Students will be introduced to the first transformation technique, called translations TEKS/AP/Standards: How will we learn it? Learning Activities: Model with students the translation (slide) transformation. Will use patty paper to show the transformation vector and how this vector has an x and y component. We will look at graphical representations of translations and algebraic problems with translations. How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment Methods: Since this is an introduction, students will do a specific problem given by instructor and then call on student on their response. Checks for Understanding: Overall call out to check for understanding. Give students the ability to show what they know and also take the time to check with each student. What do I need to be successful? Materials: Transformation Packet What do I need to before next class? Follow Up/HW: Tuesday What are we learning? Daily Objective: Students will be introduced to another transformation strategy. This one will be the reflection property. TEKS/AP/Standards: How will we learn it? Learning Activities: Use patty paper to introduce the reflection property. Give real world examples how reflections work. Example, looking at reflections in mirror, water, etc. Go over a few examples that use these transformation by looking at an algebraic and graphical approach to the problems How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment Methods: Use call out, over all class responses. Check on individual students who are struggling. Checks for Understanding: Use 0, 1, or 2 fingers to check to see what kids know. 0 is someone who is completely lost. 1 is someone who gets most of it. 2 is someone who has no problems. What do I need to be successful? Materials: Transformation Packet Friday What do I need to before next class? Follow Up/HW: What are we learning? Daily Objective: Combining both transformation strategies we learned this week. TEKS/AP/Standards: How will we learn it? Learning Activities: Continue on with the week by combining both of the transformations given. We will also discuss the possibility of a single transformation that could take the place of the composition. Use patty paper some more for the students who like to see things visually. How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment Methods: Small quiz over this week dealing with translation and transformation Checks for Understanding: Quiz over earlier material, group check with the composition problems What do I need to be successful? Materials: Transformation Packet What do I need to before next class? Follow Up/HW:
