Westside High School Lesson Plan Elhajj Algebra II Unit Name and #: Dates: Logarithms April 13 – April 17 What are we learning? Daily Objective: SWBAT evaluate and graph logarithms. SWBAT re-write logarithmic functions. TEKS/AP/Standards: 2A, 4C, 11A, 11B, 11C. How will we learn it? Learning Activities: 1. Warm Up - expand and condense logarithms. 2. Go over review for Test/work on problems from the review. Go over graphing logarithmic functions and discuss domain, range, vertical asymptote, and transformations. Spend more time evaluating logarithms and condensing and expanding expressions using the rules. 3. Exit Ticket – class discussion over logarithms. How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment Methods: teacher will circulate to check answers as students work on problems. Checks for Understanding: Teacher will check answers and circulate to answer questions. What do I need to be successful? Materials: spiral notes, textbook section 7.4 & 7.5, pencil, graphing calculator. What do I need to do before next class? Follow Up/HW: Study for Test over 7.4 & 7.5. (Major Grade) What are we learning? Daily Objective: SWBAT show mastery over evaluating and graphing logarithms. SWBAT show mastery on re-writing logarithmic functions. SWBAT solve exponential and logarithmic equations. TEKS/AP/Standards: 2A, 4C, 11A, 11B, 11C. How will we learn it? Learning Activities: 1. Warm Up – study 5 minutes over study guide. 2. Test 7.4 & 7.5 3. Begin section 7.6: Solve exponential and logarithmic equations. How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment Methods: Test 7.4 & 7.5 Checks for Understanding: Common Assessment What do I need to be successful? Materials: Test 7.4 & 7.5, graphing calculator, pencil. What do I need to do before next class? Follow Up/HW: none or study for SAT (JUNIORS) What are we learning? Daily Objective: SWBAT solve exponential and logarithmic equations. TEKS/AP/Standards: 11A, 11C, 11D, 11F. Wed/T hurs Tuesday Monday Teacher Name: Course: Friday How will we learn it? Learning Activities: Wednesday: Juniors will be taking the SAT. The rest of the class will work on final exam review. Thursday: 1. Warm Up - re-write in exponential form and evaluate logarithms. 2. Notes – 7.6 Solve exponential and logarithmic equations. Go over the four types of examples of solving exponential and logarithmic equations. 1. Exponential – get bases the same. 2. Exponential – take log of both sides. 3. logarithmic - where you cancel log on both sides. 4. logarithmic – where you do the circle formula. 3. Guided Practice – students practice problems with a partner. 4. Classwork – 7.6 Handout. 5. Exit Ticket – solve exponential and logarithmic equations. How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment methods: exit ticket. Checks for Understanding: Teacher will check by facilitating and making sure students are understanding. What do I need to be successful? Materials: textbook section 7.6, spiral notes, graphing calculator, pencil. What do I need to do before next class? Follow Up/HW: Finish classwork Handout 7.6. What are we learning?
