questions.
What do I need to be successful?
Materials: Handout 4.7, spiral notes, textbook, pencil.
Tuesday
What do I need to do before next class?
Follow Up/HW: finish handout 4.7 .
What are we learning?
Daily Objective: SWBAT solve quadratic equations using the quadratic formula. Find the
discriminant to determine how many solutions and type of solutions there are.
TEKS/AP/Standards: 8A, 8B, 8C, 8D.
How will we learn it?
Learning Activities:
1. Warm Up – Solve a quadratic equation using complete the square.
2. Check Homework/Turn in Handout 4.7 # 1 – 10.
3. Notes 4.8: Demonstrate how to use the quadratic formula to solve a quadratic equation.
Show examples with imaginary solutions also. Use examples on p. 292 – 293 # 1 – 3.
Guided Practice p. 293 # 1 – 3.
Show how to find the discriminant in order to find the number of solutions and the type
of solutions. Use example 4 on page 294.
Visual Learners: Create a chart that shows the type and number of solutions using the
discriminant.
Guided Practice p. 294 # 4 – 9.
3. Student Practice – Handout 4.8 - Students will work in pairs/groups on the problems.
4. Exit Ticket
How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly?
