Once or twice weekly, students work on our computer-based Reading Smart program. Skills
strengthened in this program include:

What are we learning?
Daily Objective:

Students will read an article about “The Freedom Riders” and will do the following:
 Answer comprehension questions correctly
 Define vocabulary words –illustrate, encounter, resistance, coordinated, refuse– and will
use them correctly in sentences
 Identify the main idea, make inferences, and identify fact from opinion in the story
How will we learn it?
All objectives have been specifically taught throughout the year. The students will be reviewing
concepts via repeated drill and practice.
How will we tell if we are learning it correctly?
Students will do well on the assignments.
What do I need to be successful?
Students need their computers for classwork.
Students need a copy of each assignment.
Checks for understanding…
Teacher will monitor and clarify as students work.
What do I need to do before the next class?
Students need to charge their computers at home.

Students will finish reading an article about “The Freedom Riders” and will do the
following:
 Answer comprehension questions correctly
 Define vocabulary words –illustrate, encounter, resistance, coordinated, refuse– and will
use them correctly in sentences
 Identify the main idea, make inferences, and identify fact from opinion in the story

Students will learn the rules to make plural nouns from single nouns.
#3
Students will learn the rules to make possessive nouns to show ownership or possession.
