Daily Objective: Students will work on the Reading Smart Program. How will we learn it? All activities are computer-based. How will we tell if we are learning it correctly? Nothing Wednesday, January 21, and Thursday, January 22 What are we learning? Daily Objective: #1 Students will identify THEME in a story. #2 Students will determine VOCABULARY IN CONTEXT for “The Scarlet Ibis” with the following words: imminent, infallibility, doggedness, reiterate, precariously, exotic, evanesce, heresy. #3 Students will define the following academic vocabulary words: context, interpret, reveal, significant, tradition How will we learn it? Students will take notes and work in centers to determine the themes of short passages. Students will work with 8 new vocabulary words to define them in context. Students will do a crossword puzzle to reinforce their learning of these words. Students will define new academic vocabulary words and will play a card game to reinforce their learning. How will we tell if we are learning these concepts/words correctly? Teacher will monitor comprehension and reteach when necessary. Students will have a vocabulary test next Tuesday. What do I need to be successful? Students need to take notes on all vocabulary. Students need copies of the THEME passage cards. What do I need to do before the next class? Study vocabulary – TEST TUESDAY, JANUARY 27, 2015 Friday, January 23, 2015 What are we learning? Daily objective: Students will learn the importance of symbolism in a story. How will we learn it? Learning activities: Students will do a WEBQUEST (based upon “The Scarlet Ibis”) to look up various symbols used in literature. How will we tell if we are learning it correctly? Teacher will monitor and guide students as they work. What do I need to be successful? Students need their own computers and a copy of the WEBQUEST assignment. What do I need to do before next class? Study vocabulary for test Tuesday.
