How will we learn it? Students will work in centers with short passages that they will be making inferences on and providing evidence from the text to support their answers. How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment Methods: Formative assessment at this time. Teacher will monitor students and clarify any questions students may have. Wed/Thur Checks for Understanding: Students will provide an exit ticket at the end of the period indicating their understanding of inferences. #2 Students will determine the meaning of grade-level technical academic English words in multiple content areas (e.g., science, mathematics, social studies, the arts) derived from Latin, Greek, or other linguistic roots and affixes. How will we learn it? Learning Activities: Students will receive explicit instruction on the meanings of the following academic vocabulary (which they will encounter in next week’s readings): CONTEXT, INTERPRET, REVEAL, SIGNIFICANT, TRADITION, NARRATOR, POINT OF VIEW, OMNICIENT. Students will provide examples of how each vocabulary word is used in literature. How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment Methods: Formative at this time. Checks for Understanding: Students examples of how each vocabulary word is used in literature will indicate their understanding of the new academic vocabulary. #3 Students will analyze the way in which a work of fiction is shaped by the narrator's .point of view. Students will be introduced to the the following narrative perspectives (point of view): firstperson, second-person, third-person objective, third-person limited, third-person omniscient. Students will take notes pertaining to the narrator’s point of view, and will work with partners to identify point of view in short passages. How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly?
