Lesson Plans 11th Week – November 3 – November 7 Please note: I make my lesson plans extensive and with high expectations. If the students are struggling and things do not go as quickly as planned, I scale back. You may see activities that I planned for last week have been moved to the current week to accommodate the pace of my learners. Major Objectives: Writing & Writing Mechanics Students will complete the paragraph over “Thank You, Ma’m” and will e-mail it to me. Students will read dialogue in “Thank You, Ma’m” and will determine rules of punctuation. After they have determined how to use punctuation correctly, they will be able to punctuate basic dialogue with 70% accuracy. Students will review the use of commas in sentences with items in a series. Vocabulary Students are working with Greek and Latin root words, prefixes, and suffixes. This week, we will finish the root word spec (to look, to see) and will take a quiz Wednesday, November 5, or Thursday November 6. Reading Students will continue to learn about common structures of informational text. Students will take vocabulary quiz over SPEC words. Students will take an online assessment to determine their Lexile scores. Lexile will enable me to target reading assignments to their specific levels. It will also help me track their reading growth. Students will review dialogue in “Thank You, Ma’m” and will determine how to correctly punctuate dialogue. They will then work on punctuating sentences with dialogue. 1. Students will take a quiz over “Out With the Old and In With the New” words. 2. Students will use prior knowledge to place commas correctly in sentences. 3. Students will begin working on reading assignments based on Lexile scores from the online testing this week.
