What are we learning?
Daily Objective: The student will read and make complex inferences about a text. The student will
edit a passage for mechanics, usage, grammar, and spelling errors.
TEKS/AP/Standard: ELA.10.Fig19B Make complex inferences about text and use textual

contribution to the success of the plot as a whole in a variety of works of fiction. ELA.10.5B
Analyze differences in the characters’ moral dilemmas in works of fiction across different

Learning Activities:
1. Warm-Up: MUGS (mechanics, usage, grammar, spelling)
2. Complete Chapter 3&4 study guide
How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly?
Assessment Methods: Study guide, JLC unit test, MUGS Monday, JLC project, Timed Writing,
Vocab/Literary terms quest
Checks for Understanding: Stopping at various points in the chapters to answer study guide questions

What are we learning?
Daily Objective: The student will write an engaging poem about their culture
TEKS/AP/Standards: ELA.10.14B Write a poem using a variety of poetic techniques (e.g.,
structural elements, figurative language) and a variety of poetic forms (e.g., sonnets,
ballads). ELA.10.13D Edit drafts for grammar, mechanics, and spelling.

Assessment Methods: Where I’m from Poem, Timed Writing, JLC Project
Checks for Understanding: None – teacher will be out today. Feedback will be provided through the
graded work

Materials: Revising and Editing passage, pen or pencil, black piece of paper, and Where I’m From

1. WARM UP: Revising and Editing –Read or review “The Rules of the Game” and complete
graphic organizer comparing and contrasting Waverly’s victories with her mother’s victories.
2. Vocabulary development practice – analyze the denotations and connotations of words and
identify literary devices in fiction text
3. Finish going over and reading chapter 3 “The Red Candle”
4. Break up into rotating circles and starting reading 4,5,6, and 7
5. Each group will get a chapter to read and answer questions
6. Go over the answers as a class

Assessment Methods: Vocab/Lit/ Comp Quest, Study guide, JLC Project, Timed Writing, JLC Unit Test
Checks for Understanding: Students will come to me to check their answers once all questions are
filled in

Materials: Vocab/ lit terms #2, pencil/pen, copies of The Joy Luck Club

Daily Objective: The student will POWER UP!!
TEKS/AP/Standards: - Acquire laptop, log on to the network, sync to OneDrive, explore the
HUB

Learning Activities:
Friday
1. Begin PowerUp deployment and presentation
2. Exit Ticket – students submit a word document containing their name and class period to an
assignment in the HUB, and save that word document to their OneDrive account

Assessment Methods: Turned in HUB assignment
Checks for Understanding: Ask and answer questions as needed, exit ticket
