Westside High School Lesson Plan Pre-AP Teacher Name: Biology Team Unit Name and #: Unit 2: Cell Structure & Function Unit 3: Cell Growth & Differentiation Unit 5: Components of DNA Course: Biology Dates: 4.13.15 – 4.17.15 Wed/Thurs Tuesday Monday What are we learning? Daily Objective: Students will review cell organelles and prokaryotic vs eukaryotic cells. TEKS/AP/Standards: (S) 4A: Compare & contrast prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. How will we learn it? Learning Activities: Review of organelles through “I Have…, Who Has” classroom activity. How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment Methods: Each round will be timed, mastery will be achieved when the classroom can complete the activity in 45 seconds or less. Quiz over mastery of biomolecules What do I need to be successful? Materials: Pen/Pencil What do I need to before next class? Follow Up/HW: Fill in Venn Diagram comparing and contrasting prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. What are we learning? Daily Objective: Students will review membrane transport through a card sort activity. TEKS/AP/Standards: (R) 4B: Investigate & explain cellular processes, including homeostasis, energy conversions, transport of molecules, and synthesis of new molecules. How will we learn it? Learning Activities: Students will work in groups to sort membrane transport facts into a 5 way matrix. After the cards are sorted student will begin playing membrane transport game. How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment Methods: Teacher will check the game matrix for accuracy. What do I need to be successful? Materials: Pen/pencil What do I need to before next class? Follow Up/HW: Review membrane transport What are we learning? Daily Objective: Students will review concepts of mitosis and meiosis through a cell cycle game activity. TEKS/AP/Standards: (R) 5A: Describe the stages of the cell cycle, including deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) replication and mitosis, and the importance of the cell cycle to the growth of organisms. (R) 6G: Recognize the significance of meiosis to sexual reproduction. How will we learn it? Learning Activities: Students will review mitosis and meiosis through drawings with explanation and cell cycle game. How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment Methods: Teacher will review drawings and explanations for accuracy. What do I need to be successful? Materials: Pen, Pencil What do I need to before next class? Follow Up/HW: Review Mitosis/Meiosis What are we learning? Daily Objective: TEKS/AP/Standards: (R) 5A: Describe the stages of the cell cycle, including deoxyribonucleic acid Friday (DNA) replication and mitosis, and the importance of the cell cycle to the growth of organisms. (R) 6G: Recognize the significance of meiosis to sexual reproduction. (R) 6A: Identify components of DNA, and describe how information for specifying the traits of an organism is carried in the DNA. How will we learn it? Learning Activities: Continuation of cell cycle game if necessary. Review of DNA through independent reading and kahoot activity. How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment Methods: Quiz over biomolecules. Checks for Understanding: Scores will be taken from kahoot activity. What do I need to be successful? Materials: Lap Tops, pen/pencil What do I need to before next class? Follow Up/HW: Review all material covered in class this week for STAAR exam.
