Dance Lesson Plans – Roberts/Rivera
Week: March 23-27
Objectives:



Students will review the dances that were begun before the spring break
Students will relearn the choreography for their performance dances
Students will learn new choreography and phrases for their performances dances
Activites:



Dress Out for class
Warm Up first 10 minutes of class
Review and learn choreography
o Monday: review
o Tuesday: review and set staging
o Wed/Thurs: complete 1st minute of class dance
o Friday: review
 Ms Roberts & Mr Rivera will be on a field trip Friday. Students will work with
the substitute, Mrs Woodcock.

4th Period: **preparing for National competition on Friday & Saturday

Week: March 30 – April 2
Objectives:



Students will learn new choreography and phrases for their class dances
Students will learn staging and placement for their class dances
Students will learn new skill sets for their class dances

o Tuesday: introduce new choreography and skills
o Wed/Thurs: polish and finalize all learned portions of class dance.
 Goal is to have 2/3rds of dance completed

Week: April 13 – 17
**This is the concert week for The Little Shop Around The Corner concert which features Inertia and JV
Inertia. Both groups will be working on their dance pieces for this performance during class each day.
Objectives
 Students will finalize and perfect their performance dances
 Students will work on their group In The Lab projects
Activities

In The Lab
o Classes 2nd , 3rd & 4th period
 Students will select their own group of 3 or 4 participants from their class
 Students will be assigned a section of the predetermined musical selection
 Each group will choreograph dance phrases for the section of music they are
assigned.
 Once the section is completed, the group is to record their work to submit to
Ms Roberts or Mr Rivera
 Music will be assigned by Ms Roberts or Mr Rivera
 Evaluation

Week: April 20 – 24
**This is concert week for the Mayonce concert, all classes will be involved
***Beginning this week all classes will meet in the Auditorium. Testing begins in the Gym areas and
dance classes will not have access to the X121 dance room
Objectives


Students will perform their dances in the concert
Students will complete In The Lab dances on the stage
Activities


All classes will be working on the stage for the week
o Time will be split with Mrs DeMartino’s classes, as they have their concert this week as
well
Each class will bring their dance to the top level of performance.
o Friday: this is the day of the concert
 Each class will have a dress rehearsal during their class time
 In The Lab dances will be staged
o Inertia and JV Inertia will be restaging dances they presented the week before in the
Mini Theatre.

Part 1 of the Major grade will be the preparation work done daily in class. This includes dress
out and participation
Part 2 of the Major grade will be the actual performance on Friday night
o The concert will be recorded for evaluation purposes
**This completes the Performance units of this semester.
Week: April 27 – May 1
All classes will begin their Final Exam dance projects
All classes will meet in the Auditorium area, actual class location will be determined on a daily basis.
Objectives

Students will select their music for their final exam dances
Students will select their partner for their final exam dances
Students will begin the process of creating their choreographic project for their final exam
dances
Activities

o Dance construction will include
o 3 Learned phrases from previous dances
o Demonstration of the following movement requirements
 High, medium and low level movement phrases
 Entrances and exits of dance phrase
 Double pirouette from a parallel position




Execution of 1 leap pattern
Utilization of all 4 corners of the space
Execute ballistic and no ballistic movement
Execute change of tempo

Week: May 4 – 8

**All classes will be meeting in the Auditorium area, exact location will be determined on a daily basis
**Students will not be required to dress out
Objectives & Activies

Students will finalize their Final exam dance projects
Students will be begin the written portion of their final exam
o Final exam worksheets
Final Exam worksheets
o Students will be given a written prompt of 30-50 inquiries to be answered using google
searches.
o Students can work together to answer their questions, but they will turn in their
responses individually as part of their final exam
o Questions to be related to choreography, dance history, music selection, technical
dance performance.
o Questions will be cumulative for the entire semester
o Questions will be posted on The Hub and in the In The Lab tab at
www.inertiadance14.com

performance of their final exam dance
